Sara Munguía (Santander, 1989) has a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Salamanca, studying the last two years at the Aalto University of Art and Design in Helsinki and the University of Barcelona. In 2014 she received the Generación 2014 prize and in 2016 she was awarded the BilbaoArte Foundation artist-in-residence grant, and the International Residency Program Museum of Contemporary Art Gas Natural Fenosa. Her work deals with issues such as the real and the virtual, the experience through images, our current notions of the historical or the individual versus the collective, primarily using video and installation. Recent projects revolve around the status of the image at a time when linear thinking linked to history is being replaced by sensory perception and therefore by a predominance of the “Now”.
Sara Munguía has been selected to participate in the Artista X Artista residency program (Havana) where she will enjoy a six-week stay between May and June 2017. This residency is the result of the Cuban artist Loidys Carnero’s participation in the Orbital Residency programme in March 2017. Artista X Artista is an initiative of Carlos Garaicoa Studio that is developed in different ways with the purpose of establishing horizontal connections between the young art scene and growing institutional network and cultural agents worldwide.
